Discussion on FL Amendment 1
Land Grab? Vote NO!
Florida ... AMENDMENT 1 THREATENS PRIVATE OWNERSHIP OF PROPERTY
Enough is enough! Federal, state, and local governments already own 27% of all the land in Florida. Amendment 1 says that any land the state declares is necessary to protect water and conservation resources should be owned by the state. How much land is needed? 30%? 40%? 50%. Are we headed toward becoming Nevada, where 80% of the land is government owned?
If Amendment 1 passes, the individual's right to own, use, and sell property ends when the state decides that private ownership of land poses a threat to water resources and wildlife habitat - that only the state is capable of protecting these "public" treasures. Amendment 1 specifically targets for state ownership "rural landscapes, farms and ranches", and the state will have up to $20 Billion taxpayer dollars to scoop up millions more acres. The real danger is, when the state has your land in its crosshairs and the state is the only buyer, the value of your land is whatever the state says it is. That's either good or bad, depending on who you are. If the unelected bureaucrats decide to reward land-owning friends or eliminate small farms, that is a recipe for both fraud and extortion. Do you really trust government with this much power and money? Amendment 1 needs to be defeated.

History documents the United States of America was founded upon the protection of private property rights. This principle, along with the other guarantees promised in our Constitution, and the rule of law laid the foundation for American prosperity and exceptionalism.
Sadly, over the past few decades, there has been a steady erosion of these fundamental tenets of our nation. The ever-growing maze of regulatory restrictions on property use is placing excessive burdens on property owners. And, the growth of government and government owned property is contributing to the rapid disappearance of private property all together. These trends are growing at an alarmingly accelerated rate and must be reversed!
